Hey, Hey, What Can I Do?

Title: Hey, Hey, What Can I Do?

Author: Prongs

Warning: Sirius/James slash!

Disclaimer: JK Rowling owns all things \'Harry Potter.\'  I bet you already guessed that Led Zeppelin owns the song \'Hey, Hey, What Can I Do?\'  It\'s one of their best songs (*grins*), and it was released in 1970 as the B Side to \'Immigrant Song.\'  Now, you can hear it if you buy one of the Box Sets.  It\ bea beautiful song (*sigh*).

A/N: How many of you know the \"Choose Your Own Adventure\" books?  I loved them when I was a kid, and my class adores them now.  This story will sort of work that way.  At the end of each chapter, you\'ll have anywhere from 2 to 5 choices, and you have to tell me which one you want.  The choice with the most votes wins.  I\'ll be looking at reviews on fanfiction.net and on the SxJ group.  If I decide to post this on adultfanfiction, then I\'ll have to check on reviews there, as well.  Chapters for this story will probably be shorter, too, just so that I can update more often!

Chapter One

^*^*^

\"So you lied then?\"

\"Excuse me?  What exactly are you talking about?\" James asked, looking irritated.

Remus rolled his eyes.  \"You lied to Sirius, didn\'t you?\"

\"About what exactly?\" James muttered as he pushed his plate of food away.

\"I have never seen you ignore food like that,\" Peter said worriedly.  He turned his attention to Remus.  \"What did he lie about?\"

\"Who says I lied about anything?\" James mumbled.

\"James, you started to tell him, didn\'t you?\" Remus asked softly.

\"Tell him…what?\"

Remus rolled his eyes.  \"Seeing as how you\'re not eating, and I\'m more concerned with patching up your relationship with Sirius, let\'s just leave here and go outside.\"

\"Can I come?\" Peter questioned as he put down a fork-full of food.

\"No!\" James exclaimed a bit too forcefully.

Remus winced and leaned down to whisper in Peter\'s ear.  \"Might be best if you just kind of stayed here and covered for us or something.\"

\"Covered for you?\" Peter looked confused as he watched his friends exit the room.  \"No idea what he\'s talking about.\"

\"Talking to yourself?\" Sirius said as he sat down across from Peter.

\"Huh?  Sirius!  What\'re you doing here?\"

Sirius raised an eyebrow.  \"Erm, this is where we eat lunch, Peter.  I\'m here to…you know…eat lunch!\"

Peter shrugged his shoulders.  \"What about the whole James lying to you thing?\"

\"Lying to me about what?\" Sirius looked genuinely confused.

Peter sighed.  \"I really have no idea.  Remus and James just left.  Remus wouldn\'t leave James alone,\" Peter muttered as he stuffed some mashed potatoes into his mouth.  \"Kept saying that James lied to you.\"

Sirius took a sip of his drink and just stared at Peter quizzically.  \"I wonder what\'s going on.  Where did they go?  Do you know?\"

\"Outside, I guess,\" Peter replied.  \"Are you going to eat your dessert, Siri?\"

Sirius pushed his chocolate pie over to Peter.  \"I\'m not going to eat.  I need to find Remus and James.  See you later, Pete.\"

Peter shrugged his shoulders yet again and started on Sirius\' pie.

Sirius hurried outside and walked around the grounds until he saw Remus and James standing by the lake.  Luckily, they hadn\'t seen Sirius yet.

Sirius crept up behind the large tree that Remus and James were in front of and carefully listened to their conversation.  He could only hear bits and pieces of it.

\"I didn\'t lie…didn\'t even talk to him!\" James exclaimed.

\"…don\'t believe…seemed so upset,\" Remus replied.

\"That\'s because I should have talked to him!\" James replied loudly.  \"It\'s just that…nerve to do it.\"

\"…tell him how…feel,\" Remus said.  \"Sirius…all people…know…it.\"

Sirius pushed himself flat against the tree, straining to hear more of their conversation.

\"What can I do, though?\" James asked in defeat.  \"You\'re right…needs to know…soon, right?\"

\"Obviously,\" Remus replied.  \"You\'ve felt…for so long, anyway.\"

\"Very true,\" James said.  \"Should I tell…dinner…tonight?\"

\"Or sooner,\" Remus said.

\"Maybe…weekend…better, though,\" James said thoughtfully.

\"Absolutely not!\" Remus exclaimed adamantly.

\"…think about it.  We…probably go…now.\"

Sirius dashed behind another tree and watched his two friends walk across the grounds and back inside Hogwarts.  After they were safely inside, he followed their path, wondering what on earth was going on.

Meanwhile, James was pacing around the Gryffindor common room, trying to decide when to tell Sirius his true feelings…

^*^*^
