Éclair – Part the First – Confrontation
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn’t the thought of Professor Snape asking him to remain after Potions that worried him, more that the smells of roast pork and gravy wafting down from the kitchen were so exceedingly tantalizing. And there might be éclair’s for dessert - he wished that this would be over, he could rush along and pray that Crabbe and Goyle had not eaten all the pudding.
“Malfoy – take a seat”
“Sir, you wanted to see me after class may I enquire as to why?”
Snape wearily raised his wand, and gestured at the door. It eased itself shut. He twisted in his seat, with a grimace on his face – he had been dreading this conversation.
“Draco, is there anything wrong, any thing at all?”
“No sir, why do you ask?”
“Maybe something to do with Potter? Or Lucius?”
“Nor sir”, Draco’s face moved involuntarily towards the door. “Is there anything else sir?” he said, as he made to rise.
“Yes, Draco there is, could you please be seated” – as the blonde settled into his chair, Snape sighed and continued “both Madame Pomfrey, and Professor Hooch have asked me to speak with you – they have noticed quite a change in your eating habits over the last few weeks”
Draco turned a guilty shade of red, he knew that he had been rather overdoing it in the sustenance department, turning into a real gourmand in fact – but it was more to ally his nerves than anything else – being a spy for Dumbledore, and having to maintain his carefully kept façade in front of the entire school were really taking their toll on him. He quashed the thought of his bed at night, reaching his hand down over his softening skin, thinking about the piercing black eyes and glistening hair of…
“Draco” Severus snapped – “is there anything you would like to say on the matter?”
“Sorry sir, I apologize for putting you in such an awkward position – I will endeavor to correct my behavior as quickly and subtly as possible”
“See that you do Mr. Malfoy – see that you do, you may be off now”
“Goodnight Sir.”
Snape sighed to himself. He wished it would be that easy, but he could not labor under the misapprehension that this would all right itself with time. He had noticed the way in which Draco had sniffed the air as he left the classroom and the slow secretive smirk as he smoothed his shirt down over his stomach. Bar a miracle, he was going to have to owl Lucius. He wondered how his friend was going to react to the fact that he son was taking after him in more than the prescribed Malfoy looks and attitudes.
