Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
In Wisdom's Creed
This is my first fanfic being uploaded.
This is because the first fanfic I started writing is being written from the middle and I've not yet written the opening chapter.
The title of the story is 'In Wisdom's Creed'.
This is from a poem by William Wordsworth titled "Where Lies The Truth? Has Man In Wisdom's Creed"
The title of this chapter is 'A Broken Man'.
This is from William Shakespeare's King Henry VII. Act iv. Sc. 2 which is quoted as follows:
"An old man, broken with the storms of state,
Is come to lay his weary bones among ye:
Give him a little earth for charity!"
DISCLAIMER: I do not own these people! J.K.Rowling does, and she is wonderful!
So, since it's my first upload, please review lots!
And, more importantly; enjoy!
Secretly Snape

When Hermione reached the lake, the sun was just dipping out of sight. Red light reflected off the surface the only splash of colour in the grounds.
The moon was already visible, low in the sky, but bright despite the dying rays of the sun.
She sat down, staring out across the water's surface, rippled slightly by the cool breeze.
It was so quiet out here, only the the occasional flutter of wings as owls brought their messages into the tower.
She closed her eyes and leaned back until she was lying on the grass. It was a lovely night; the air was still warm, but not too warm, and the stars were out in force, twinkling at her when she opened her eyes.
She smiled. This was perfect.
Then the silence was shattered, her peace broken by a loud crack from outside the gates.
She jumped to her feet and instantly headed towards the sound, before stopping and realising that going towards strange sounds wasn't the best of ideas.
Quietly she inched her way closer and soon she was able to hear muttering and moaning.
Someone was in pain out there.
Immediately she wondered if it was Professor Snape, he could have been called again.
Making the decision she opened the gates and headed towards a dark shape on the floor.
The shape was twitching uncontrollably, the obvious after-effects of the Cruciatus Curse.
She knelt beside it and laid a hand on what looked like its back, the figure jumped and snarled.
That wasn't Professor Snape's voice, it sounded somewhat familiar, but she couldn't place it.
"Umm... are you ok?" she asked.
The figure groaned and moved back, revealing a length of blonde hair, and then a sneering face.
"Get away from me mudblood!" he managed.
Hermione blinked and jumped back.
"Mr Malfoy? What are you doing here?" she accused.
He tried to stand, but fell to the floor again and then started to shake violently, screaming in agony.
Hermione wasn't sure what to do; this was her enemy, but he looked to be in so much pain.
Suddenly he went very still and very quiet.
"Mr Malfoy? Are you ok?" she whispered.
Then his body started to twitch again and he forced himself to look up at her.
He pulled himself across towards her, the pain evident in his eyes, his body still twitching.
Looking up with unfocused eyes he gave up, dropping to the floor again and reaching a hand out to her; "Help me... please..."
The desperation in his voice shook her to the core. This was a broken man, not the proud smug self-serving bastard she'd come to know and who had shouted at her just a few moments earlier.
Quickly she rose and went over to him, smoothing the hair out of his face.
"Can you hear me Mr Malfoy? I'm going to get you to the hospital wing."
He raised his head slightly, fighting to keep his eyes open, and then suddenly he went rigid, his eyes flashed and he pulled back.
"Get away from me mudblood bitch!" he cried out.
"Where am I? Why are you here?" He glanced around, but his body still wasn't fully under his control.
He managed to sneer at her and tried to stand, then fell back again and suddenly started shaking.
"Oh gods... where am I?" The voice was once more desperate and quiet.
"Help me someone please... I can't fight it much longer..."
Then his head fell.
