Lovely story! I have read it a few times now and still enjoy it very much. I can't help but notice though that Severus did actually leap onto the winner of the duel, although he said he wouldn't.

Wonderful story, if more than a bit frustrating because of Harry's maddening inability to recognize what was really going on. And really, after all these years Severus should know that Harry doesn't DO subtle! Not that he couldn't have handled things better, though his frustration with Harry is quite understandable, lol.

Forgot to say that I would love to read about the duel from Kallen's POV, especially since he made it clear to Harry that not only did he consider Harry and Flitwick both to be past their primes, but that he expected Harry to throw the duel anyway. Arrogant idiot.

What a lovely story! I enjoyed the way that Severus lurked about at the edges, finding out everything that going on around him, already decided on what and who he wanted. I thought it was amusing how Kallen thought he could just win Severus, and how Harry thought he was being noble in letting him win, and how he struggled with trying to help Kallen during that misfire of a duel and just couldn't help but win it because the other wizard was so not the man that Harry had thought he was.
What was best was that in the end, it was Severus that was the victor and claimed the prize he wanted...had apparently wanted for a long time. His relentless admiration and desire for Harry finally coming out before he could lose him...that was wonderful. Thanks for a thoughtful and rewarding story!
