Smart move by Harry to not want to make it known that the killer could be someone who fought against the death eaters at the battle of hogwarts, that would just cause people to start pointing fingers, be more uncooperative than they have been or it could cause the killer lay low. If Narcissa went out on some revenge quest it would only make the Bard more sympethetic to the public and create more enemies for 'ex' dark side affiliated pure bloods and Slytherins.
This line confused me a bit though:"So it can't be that it was just Death Eaters, or even just people on Voldemort's side."
Didnt the Slytherin girl and Montagu fight on the side of the death eaters during the battle? If so why does Harry think that there will be targets other than from the groups he has mentioned? Marked or not, they were fighting on the dark side. Although I might have misread/misinterpreted that passage and might need to go back and re-read the first chapter.
Scary thought that the Bard was in there home and could have gotten to any of them eh? So going by that the bard has been in the manor before, perhaps someone who was tortured in their dungeon? Plenty of blood and hair from there could have been the anchor. It's also scary and a bit sad that the killer could very well be someone who Harry has fought alongside with and might even know personally.
So in one corner we have Harry who is committed to his goal of justice and in the other we have the Bard who is committed too his(her?) particular brand of vengeance. Two true believers going head to head where the one who has the strongest conviction to there goals will be left standing.

Words cannot express my gratitude towards you for having started this.
Brilliant first chapter. And quite the ......'chilling' death for Lucius.....I am going to hell for that pun.
Nothing scarier in my eyes than a killer who believes in the righteousness of there acts. Those are the ones who can't be reasoned with and will justify there acts as justice. But a killer is still a killer and Harry is right that it is the Auror's job to pass judgment not have vigilantes becoming judge, jury and executioner.
Can't wait for Harry to inform the Malfoy's of him being their protective detail until further notice. Curious to see what the addition of the Muggleborn Legion brings too the story and whether or not they will be sympathetic towards someone some of them could very well see as some sort of warped avenging angel.
Will pansy or her family become a target as well?
-waits patiently for the next chapter-
