It's actually not unheard of. Pologamy is still praticed even to this day. It is uncommon but not unheard of.

i think when it comes for the times for dumbledore to tell harry the big secret about his scar that harry refuses to listen to what dumbledore has to say. the second dumbledore says he needs to tell harry something and harry asks has dumbledore been keeping more secrets and he says yes then harry leaves and refuses to have anything to do with dumbledore so that as a result dumbledore is forced to come up with a new plan to try and keep moldyshorts down without having to kill harry. such as trapping moldyshorts in some kind of soul prison until harry can die of old age. dumbledore seems to always want to run EVERYTHING so he can run the plan to catch moldyshorts soul and put it in prison then.
