Wow, this is absolutely disturbing. I mean the beginning was kinda hot and awkward but now it's scary as hell!
Yeah, Victorian times and the history of psychiatry are fucked up.
I'm SO glad Draco showed up though! Wondering who the mystery man is.

Oh Draco's return was so sweet! I love how gentle he was with her and really would love to thank the nurse who got him for her. I'm not so sure she could have handled another day of that kind of treatment. And boy would I hate to be de Belleme when Draco gets ahold of him.
Sorry to hear you won't be able to update for a while but it's totally understandable. It will simply make each update that much more of a treat! :)
Good luck and have a safe move!

This is very good so far and I am so glad Draco is back, though it's odd that he, of all people would be Hermione's "knight in shining armor" in any case I am relieved he's back and cannot wait to read what happens to the couple next. I'm wondering if he is the kind of guy who wants revenge... he was the Slytherin Prince after all... I'll be looking forward to the next chapter, great job again!

And thus, the age-old case of the treatment of a perceived madness creating madness. Hermione's gonna have a real hard time coming out of this one. I'm anxiously awaiting the next chapter!

Apologies for having to review chapters 4&5 together... I've been away for a bit. Anyways back to the story... I'm still horrified by what Hermione is experiencing. Unfortunately the medical field used to be like that but I think that it has become more humane. This night keeper character is such a... Creeper. There is no other word I can think of to describe him. At this point I am hoping Hermione keeps her sanity until someone can save her from that abomination of a medical facility. I can't wait to read what happens next. Update soon!

As you said, "Hysteria" was a common diagnosis in Victorian times, and the treatments ranged from simply masturbating the patient to some rather extreme "therapies", since the supposed experts could dream up nearly anything as being the root cause of the problem.
The more fantastic the supposed cause, the more extreme the treatment.
It IS a bit annoying though to see Hermione just go along with it in the early chapters. She, of all people, is the most likely to not only be aware of these Victorian notions, but also the most likely (if she didn't know the history of the Hysteria diagnosis) to walk away from the treatment the very second someone told her that masturbation was a sign of problems. She's way to educated, modern, and liberated for that.
I understand though that there wouldn't be a story if she weren't trapped in St. Mungo's, but couldn't she have been placed there through a method that didn't involve turning her stupid first?
That Draco was behind the original diagnosis should have been clue #1 for her, no matter how much kinder his methods are by comparison.
Other than Hermione's sudden drop in IQ, the story is rather well written with grammar and spelling far above average.
While I'm putting in my two shillings, I would love to see Harry be the one to get her out of this. It's unlikely on this site, but it would be something you don't see all the time here... I know many are pulling for Draco, but let us not forget that he is part of the problem. He is part of the backwards system that got Hermione into the degrading situation she's in now being violated repeatedly for audiences in the very small community of Wizarding UK.
Either he buys into the Hysteria diagnosis, and therefor is way too misogynistic and antiquated for a woman like Hermione, or he doesn't believe in it and just did this to lure Hermione into a situation where she would be tortured until she was in a vulnerable position for him to swoop in and "rescue", take advantage of, and possibly put under a marriage contract.
Any way you slice it, Draco isn't the person she should be with, nor anyone else who is part of the system keeping her locked up. My fervent vote is behind her best friend, Harry.
He IS the one she keeps calling out for, after all. Make note of that.

Poor Hermione! I feel like crying every time I read about the torture she's enduring. I know things will start to get better when Draco somes back into the picture and he'll take his time with her and allow her to heal as needed, so I hold out for that moment. You've really painted a dark and horrible setting for this story, and done it well. I'm not entirely sure who this 'keeper' is that comes in every night, but I hope he doesn't get a hold of Hermione in contract. I doubt he'll be much better for her than the idiot 'healers' have been.

Okay, that chapter gave me chills. *shiver* I would definitely be going insane. O_O And you really weren't kidding when you said this would be the darkest chapter, were you? Wow.... I loved the last bit of the chapter. You capture that lost feeling so well! I am amazed!
