Oh, but I do love this. There's a barren, stilted feel to your prose that matches right up against the sterile, empty shadowness of both characters.

I must confess, I opened the fic hoping for sub!Lily, and only got one glimpse:

'The woman he once knew wouldn't have been standing here, having a conversation with him, asking him what he intended to do with her. She would have spat in his face, and slammed the door, and left, without looking back.'

One senses the fire that was once part of Lily and, in my imagination at least, part of their relationship.

Great fic. Very thought-inducing.

Really like the end of this. It is terrible to think of Lily not doing the one thing that I truly admire so much about her (since we don't really know much of Lily in any other way), so this is a really interesting read. I like that Severus had thought over the fact that Lily as she is, isn't the type of person that could have stepped aside, that the person in front of his is the Lily he wished for, not the Lily he knew. And as a result of his own guilt, he couldn't enjoy this reality.

This was a well done AU. Despite the darkness of the story I really enjoyed the bittersweetness of it.

What would happen if Lily stepped aside? I think you've answered rather well that life for her would end. She would exist, but not live. Very interesting little story. Has great potential for more, you could really show the consequences of her choice in a very dark and depressing story.

Despite the hopelessness of the characters in this story I liked it.

beautifully written and tragic. I found it to be very fitting also. I like that there's nothing special that happens if she had stepped aside, Harry just... dies. When I read the title and the summary, I had a hint that it would be like this and I enjoyed reading the fic. Even with my hunch, the way it was written was very smooth and poetic in a way.
