I was worried for a moment but I am so glad you did not kill of Sirius, as Snape would have lost Harry that way as well. I had forgotten, which was silly, that Snape, too, is keeping things he knows about Lily from Harry. It really makes him no better than Lupin that way, especially this time around when Severus actually has the incentive to be close to Harry. As for Sirius, while Severus is right about the mental state (which is worrisome), Harry's relationship with his godfather will always make me smile. The end, when Severus talks of Draco being the one closer to his soul; it isn't right that Severus thinks he can have that relationship, but not allow Harry his relationship with his own godfather. Though it is understandable. It was sad that Harry once again forgot Draco, but then again, it was even sadder that Draco had to appeal to Harry based on Buckbeak since they were not yet friends, and Draco couldn't feel appropriately betrayed without making Harry defensive. Great development here so far.

By forcing him to spend time with both of them and not allowing that maybe Harry has a reason to want to spend time with the only live and acknowledged connection to his parents, Severus may just push Harry a little farther away while trying to pull him closer. Draco's desperate and could care less if Harry spends time with Sirius, as long as there is still time for Draco. All of Severus's attempts at Harry manipulation may backfire...in an unfortunate manner.

As always, your characterizations are deft and faceted and perfect. Every scene is perfectly drawn. The story simply flows. Watching through Slytherin eyes is fascinating.
I think what I love best about your work is the way you give Snape such perception. He's brilliant and unflinching.
