"Harry's theory on that was an old prejudice against those who could not do magic. Apparently this was one of many ways they thumbed their noses at Muggles in an attempt to say they needed nothing non-magical people could offer." Yes Harry. OR it could be that their gold is ACTUAL GOLD and precious metals - and thus of a lot more material worth than paper notes. Just as nonmagical gold coins to banknotes. But of course with such a mundane explanation you couldn't feel like the prosecuted victim.... Oh well, Harry's never been known for his intellectual prowress or depth of thinking and questioning so this is certainly in character.
Hmmm, so it's only a matter of little time until Alyssa becomes part of Dumbledore's machinations. I wonder how she'll feel when she learns that the "kindly" old man dumped her nephew in the middle of the night alone on a doorstep in November. Bluntly informing the aunt that her estranged sister was murdered by letter in which she is also threatened to take the boy in, wether she wants to or not. And then he left them alone with a child soon exhibiting wild magic without any chance for them to keep it and themselves safe, obliviate witnesses, deal with wholly irrational, inexplicable situations. I guess at that time they grew actively hostile and put Harry under the stairs, otherwise he wouldn't be able to talk and follow classes normally if they'd neglected and isolated him from the start.... I'm not a Dursley-fan at all, but Dumbledore behaved despicable towards them and exactly as arrogantly and superior as his elitist pureblood supremacist opponents.
As he did towards Harry, knowingly tolerating the neglect before Hogwarts (since certainly Arabella reported to him, she was after all extra installed by him!) and since, despite knowing from Harry, Hagrid and the Weasleys how things stood at Little Whinging. All so that Harry would be properly attention-starved and malleable ("All Slytherins are dark wizards, Harry! Dumbledore is a great man!") in the human chess game AD engaged in with Riddle. He deliberately kept Harry in a loveless, neglectful environment. Few people are THAT ruthless in instrumentalizing children as Dumbledore is. In Alyssa's place I'd be furious. And very, very distrustful regarding his motives and methods in the future....

Very cool start. Any chance you'll be putting this on regular FF.net? It's hard to get updates from here if at all. And I really dont want to miss this story!
