You've got an interesting premise and it doesn't look too bad so far.
There are a few slight distractions though. When you shift to Sirius's thoughts, it doesn't look any different from the regular story text. It'd be really helpful if thoughts looked different. Also, your sentences could be shorter. (I'm one of the weird people who read commas and full stops differently in my head, so it's difficult for me to read run-on sentences.)

You had an error though with regards to Australia. The seasons in the lower hemisphere are reversed.
Winter in England would be Summer down-under. So no snow at Christmas.
Australia would have snow in June/July/August. Heck the water in the flush toilets rotates the opposite direction down there. Weird, but true.
