i like that take on sadism - because i cannot stand bottom!harry otherwise. - BUT snape doing all of this because he has to SAVE harry and harry being actually possessed by evil - that makes it sort of ok :) - and snape being more or less in love with harry is lovely!

(Chapters 12 & 13)

I'm glad I read these two chapters together before reviewing. I had to read Chapter 12 over a couple of times to be able to tell who was saying what, and was going to ask that you please make a new paragraph to separate the speakers, as it would be less confusing, but then you did that in Chapter 13, so thank you!

It seemed, in Chapter 12, that Harry was making a bit of a breakthrough, recognising the evil part of himself and able to discern it from the better part of himself, and recognising the same in Severus; that the man who whipped him and punished him was not the same man who was kind and caring and willing to make love to him. Harry recognised that the Severus who whipped him was the Severus that Harry, the evil side of Harry himself drove him to be, giving him an outlet for the anger and hate he felt inside so it wouldn't stay there to fester. Then in Chapter 13, evil Harry was back, carving Severus up with a knife and denying that he could ever willingly allow himself to beg to be made love to. A very swift and harrowing change between, as you say, devil and angel. Almost too swift....it didn't seem that there was anything to provoke the change...so, is this a sign of Harry's deepening psychosis? It seems that although Severus seems to think himself cured of the rage and anger he once kept inside....he really isn't. It comes out again in his punishments of Harry, and then again in his self hate and self loathing. He has Lily's forgiveness, and perhaps Dumbledore's, but he doesn't have his own yet, and so it seems that he's just as damaged as Harry is, which would then follow that he's in no position to be trying to cure Harry of his poison tree, as Severus himself isn't really cured of his own. With Harry taking a knife to Severus, carving him up and threatening to kill him, his anger and hatred is still festering, but if this is how he lets it out, how will either of them survive?

Looking forward to the update and seeing what happens.

@ 12 Well, THAT sounds much better. I hope the next backslash won't drive them too far apart again. I hope they are coming nearer and nearer to any better understanding they can get.

(Chapter 11)

That was harrowing, whipping him bloody and unconscious. *shivers* Totally unexpected as well. I figured Harry would try to goad Severus again, and backhanded to the floor along with the "Carrion Kiss" seemed like punishment enough, and I thought Severus had agreed to some manual, physical labour as punishment, I didn't see this coming at all.

Severus made mention earlier of someone whom he loved helping him eradicate his own poisoned tree. Dumbledore, but he also said that the things he would do to Harry to help him would seem cruel and would certainly be painful, so...does it then follow that Dumbledore subjected Severus to the same treatment Severus is subjecting Harry to? I can see how punishments such as being beaten with a belt and being whipped would certainly cure Harry of misbehaving...breaking dishes and so forth......and of mouthing off, but I don't yet see how beating and whipping him will cure him of the hatefulness and evil he has inside. It seems to me that it would force him to control his outward behaviour, but would only feed the darkness inside, perhaps until it drove him mad, so I'm looking forward to future chapters to see where you go with this.
