Actually, it's "wreaking havoc" as wreak means "to bring about" while wreck means "to ruin or destroy". You can blame spell check, which probably corrected a mis-spelled word into a correctly spelled word that wasn't the one you wanted to use. It happens all the time.
Other than that, I'm finding this story (I'm only on chapter three or four) highly amusing and enjoyable.
