WHew! Nothing like a little strife in a family to intesify things, yes?

Your Odessa is quite a person. People don't often gain wisdom from happy, perfect lives. Wisdom comes from experience with a healthy dose of common sense. She's been through the wringer and Severus is benefiting from her eye-opening perspective of his relationship with his daughter. Very nicely done.

I'm beginning to feel tricked into reading this. Is this going to be SS/HG or not?

ohmyohmyohmyohmy! You really like messing up people's lives, don't you? Even if they're only ff characters Although real life it messes up well enough so you don't have to look very far for inspiration...
And 'how in the world did Ron get so smart' indeed? I don't reacall any (SSHG) fic in which he is so... well, mature. I could picture canon Ron (and in canon age, mind you) saying something like 'he got what he deserves'
As for Severus, 'it all ends the same way' I don't think I've ever read something so sad about him. You didn't even need cruciatus and the Dark Lord to hurt him. I just wish he talked to Eileen before the ball so she could have a good time. Being in her shoes, I for sure couldn't have.
You didn't make this fic easy for our fav couple. You said once that it doesn't have to be SSHG romance. It can refer to their parental interactions. And as much as my heart would like for Hermione to be the one to 'make it all better for poor Sev' I couldn't really blame you if he ended up with Odessa You showed how very little they have in common when it comes to emotions and experience. She can feel empathy but could she understand him and accept as he is?
ok, enough my babbling
With best wishes,
Belle

Odessa is a fresh point of view, one from outside the standard cast of characters, and I love the interactions you give them. If he ends up with her, I can deal with it, she has the practical smarts to be a fully-fledged player in her own right, I think. You've created something good, here, please keep going.

Vertpin: Hermione would be different handling Severus than she would a stuffed shirt from the Ministry. He's not the enemy, just a man used to dealing with his daughter his way without interference. It wasn't a pretty scene and wasn't meant to be. Snape is watching his daughter's world expand and himself growing smaller in it. It has to be hard for him.

As to your question for a sequel to this showing Snape and Hermione together, I highly doubt it. I rarely do sequels to start with, and I really don't see a reason to do one for this when I can just write HG/SS with them as lovers or becoming lovers. Let Ron and Hermione have a good marriage in this one without him dying off or losing his wife to another man. That scenario gets old too. Thank you for commenting. ***
