That was an interesting chapter.
I'm glad that we're finally having some serious Hermione/Severus interaction now.
Though I still wish there was more... but can you blame me?
Severus is such a smartass in this story too.
And Ron is such a dope.
The Lupin/Pansy subplot is... original at the very least.
I'm not sure how much I believe it yet, but it doesn't seem completely impossible, so I'm open to the possibility. Not quite sure how that's going to tie into the others though.

Also, I must say that I am very intrigued by this whole Dark vs. good balance thing. And Dumbledore thought it was Snape? Aw... that makes me so sad for little Severus.
I'm wondering if he was completely wrong though. The Snape you've written seems like he could yet be the next in line... buuuut I dunno. Maybe he'll be the next good guy and Sirius will be the next bad guy! Hn... Anything could happen!

I began this with apprehension because I am somewhat hesitant about really dark fics. However, this is intriguing. I like the balance of power concept between good and evil, the legacy/inheritance twist is an interesting component that I don't think I have seen before. I am guessing that if Severus is having the same dreams that Harry is having, he may have the potential to be the next dark Lord. This is just speculation on my part, of course. It would be interesting to see if Severus could thwart that destiny. I also found your description of his ambiguous frame of mind on the nature of good and evil intriguing. Those kinds of thoughts could place him on a slippery slope.

Of course, I also love the developing tension between Hermione and Severus. The slow build is always good; once you get the characters in bed, there is a certain level of climax (pun intended) that leads to denouement. The longer you can string them along and everyone else in the process, the better. I'm probably going to need to duck a few tomatoes from that last statement from those of your readers who want them in the sack ASAP.

Incidentally, I love the Milton and Paradise Lost references.

I am looking forward to the next chapters to see where you will take this.

I like how seamlessly you're blending the stories of different characters together as well as the dramatic themes with the more trivial.
I can tell that the plot was well thought out before hand. You seem to be very aware of where you're headed.
