You have a good start, and good control over your sentence structure. I didn't see any spelling or grammar mistakes, but maybe that's because i was enjoying this first chapter too much. AFF screws around with your formatting, so just be careful when you're writing 'letters' or 'flashbacks' on this site and go back and re-edit them (or italicize).

This is good from what I have read so far. My only comment is the double spacing is rather distracting; I know the format on here tricky to master. But beside that, you've got yourself a regular reader here.
