This chapter was a very interesting look into the power-play of the upper class. I love how Lucius and Hermione are able to play off one another, both learning and moderating their behavior as they go along. I'm also glad Hermione actually had some fun at the ball. She doesn't seem too thrilled with many of things she has to do as a pureblood wife, so this is a nice break in the monotony.
Lucius's neuroticism about the lint on his jacket is so...Lucius. :) And he's absolutely lickable in his ball getup.
The descriptions of the pureblood wives and their awful fashions were indeed quite amusing. I was getting images in my head of the adverts I see for The Real Housewives of Orange County/NYC. Just goes to show that money can't buy you taste!
Finally a bit of information about the mysterious Uncle Malfoy. It's always the woman breaking hearts, isn't it? I feel a bit bad for Uncle M but it's starting to become clear why Lucius and Hermione have been sent to this time and place. The continued threats against the squibs bodes ill...I wonder what Lucius is going to tell Hermione when they return home.
I'm also sensing an impending Lucius freak-out because he's falling in love (REALLY falling in love) with Hermione. Which will of course lead to a fight and a miserable separation and then he will get over himself and just admit that he loves her and move on. All the while they'll both be trying to figure out what the heck they're supposed to do...is drama on the horizon?
But of course there is. And I wouldn't have it any other way! Keep up the excellent work!

I was looking at some victorian era clothing recently, some from a little earlier on and I have to admit, some of the prints were just....bleck....I wouldnt even cover furniture with. I find it funny to hear people wax poetic on the beauty of the victorian and renaissance eras because the sense of style was rather gaudy and the decor was cluttered and tacky. While I will not deny the style of the furniture was quite lovely, the colors used and the sheer volume of it was awful. Though I will admit to being a clutter nazi.
Hermione doesnt appear to like socializing. Though I always took her for one who had her close friends and that was all she needed. Im that way, I dislike socializing with people I dont know. I despise military balls, the recieving lines the speakers, having to sit with people I dont know, I feel put on display.
I have a small collection of dancecards. I like to collect odd things, dance cards are one of them, most from the south and only one from england. One still has the names clearly legible on the card, from the civil war era.
I like the description of the woman with all the broaches. How true of older, wealthy women of the time, to adorn themselves with every bit of wealth they had at their disposal. Not to mention how some "matchmaking mammas" would adorn their daughters to attract a man, even going as far as to dampen gowns to reveal hints of the treasures underneath. Of course I have heard tell of many a gentlemen padding his "Smallclothes" as well.
It really was a brutal society. Just out of curiosity, are there going to be any young, pureblood debutantes coveting the handsome Lord Malfoy?
happy writing!

I could almost see those dresses in my head. I'm glad it was almost, because I believe they would have caused morning sickness. It was fun, and I managed to sneak a little dance in with Lucius. It was fun. And I like the way he was working the politics at the dinner table.

What a lovely addition! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the ball, especially the fashion. Sadly, less is more seemed to be a concept most women in that era failed to comprehend. It was interesting to see how Lucius and Hermione interacted with the other purebloods. It seems as though the closer they get the more comfortable Hermione becomes with the idea that other women lust over her husband. Lucius on the other hand seems to be developing a possessive streak, which I can

I loved it! I was semi-reminded of Meet me in St. Louis. You did a wonderful job of describing Lucius' aura of superiority. Brilliant! Thanks for the updates.

RE: chapters one through thirteen
'Are there any brave lurkers out there?'
Please forgive me for not having posted a review. To my shame and horror I have become a "lurker". I have been enjoying your story so much that I could not wait to see what was going to happen next; and thus, I would proceed onto the next chapter without taking timeout to leave a review for the fantastic chapter I had just finished reading. In other words, I was too lazy to take the time, and too impatient to find out what was going to happen next.
To get caught up...I absolutely LOVE this story! I enjoy the characters, love how you developed them, portray them, have them interact together, their back histories (twelve years without a woman, hey? I'll help the guy out! *WEG*), and the horrific doings of the Master and his control over ALL muggles--BRILLIANT!
*::fanning face, while breathing rapidly::*
Holy shite! Is it hot in here, or is it my reacting to Lucius' taking care of his "hard" problem? DEFINITELY Lucius everytime! Mmm-Mmm-Mmm, I'd eat that man up with a spoon. *WINK-WINK-KNUDGE-KNUDGE-....*

Naaw, I suddenly understand Hermione even more. It's not fun to have scars. And when that stupid Robert had told her how ugly it was... Well, it's not weird that she has so low selfesteem... Good thing it seems like Lucius can help her with that :)
Hm... just a little thought, where is the sex-paitings in Lucius's time? Hehe, if they ever get back to their own time, I wouldn't be surprised if Lucius took them with him... and that would explain why he hadn't seen them before. Otherwise, perhaps Abraxas or someone took them... Hm... that is another thought. Will Lucius become his own great grandfather or something like that? I mean, if he and Hermione gives birth to his... grandfather or something... Weird. And do you spell it Lucius' or Lucius's? Because someone told me not long time ago that you should write it Lucius's eyes or Lucius's house... I have no idea... I sometimes forget to put a ' between a name and a s, because we don't have it in swedish...
Oh!! I liked the lemon! I so envy Hermione... Or perhaps I envy Lucius... Hihi... spanking... I don't know, but it always so... interesting... to read about it!
Loved this chapter! Take care!

This story is truly wonderful! I am now very interested in the next chapter. Will they ever go back to their own time? If they do, will they be able to reunite with Lucuis's estranged family and Hermione's past friends(Harry and Ron)? And what does happen to the master who is destroying the magical world of their time? Keep up the good work!
