Yes, I think Hermione was being a little over the top with the compliments. Yes, Lucius was eating it up, but what happens when he stops to think about it and goes

Til I turn blue? That's all right, blue is a good color for me.

Oh, banter. One of my great loves. It's always so great between Lucius and Hermione, whether it's sweet, aggressive, or sarcastic. It's half the reason I adore them as a couple.

If Hermione doesn't develop any style from living with Lucius, there is no hope for her. Lucius was too cute with his dandy behavior. It stands to reason that someone who looks so polished all the time must be obsessive about clothing. Lucius, the leading metrosexual of the wizarding world, haha.

And isn't he sneaky, using legilimency, though I suppose that is a more direct route for the information he needs. I'm willing to bet that Lucius may catch a glance of that owl with the odd tail feathers - or is that a red herring designed to distract us? Maybe it's the Armbrusters.

Ah, but there I go again with my speculation. I think I'm going to clamp down on it for now lest I turn a less flattering shade of hypoxic.

Great work as usual...can't wait to read about Lucius displaying his 'wares', hehe.

OK, that was a lovely set up. I enjoyed reading about them getting ready for their roles. Anyway, I like that he is getting closer to figuring out the blackmail. And I can't wait to see how you reward them for dealing with those social obligations.

Tight trouser time, I am hoping! LOL. Just the thought of Lucius in something like that..*drools*
Hermione keeps on making me laugh when she says "bosoms" all the time. She is too adorable.
I hope that I am not the only one who hasn't a clue who the blackmailer is...

You think snoring is bad?! My other half SQUEAKS. Though, I talk in my sleep, so it's not all him.

Lucius is so like my other half, as far as clothes goes! Andy spends forever trying to decide on what to wear for a night out! I'm dressed in minutes, he takes hours! I could never say Andy looks like Lucius, he's more of a tanned Snape with short hair, he's got one heck of a nose! (don't tell him I said that)... though, he's got Neville's temprement. lol.

Mum taught me well... but we don't agree on frills! Though we've the same attitude to makeup - if it isn't a special occasion, don't bother putting on your face. Makeup is reserved for weddings, christenings, funerals, birthdays, important nights out and job interviews. We're both blessed with very clear (practically flawless) skin, we don't need warpaint to cover it.

Are we still in the era of ankles being erotic?

Hoping she'll sneeze? lol!

I've read that many married women of the era wore a 'cap' to show they were married. Pleas tell me Hermione doesn't wear such a horror!

Oh eye? Hermione reads playwitch, does she? And how many issues was Lucius ACTUALLY in?

Not that the wives will know any scone recepies! Their house elves will, but not them! lol!

To say Hermione won't like his little mind probing is like asking 'is the Pope Catholic?'

Ooooh - the plot thickens...

Oh my, they're almost as much fun getting dressed as they are undressing! I wish I had your gift for taking a scene slowly and yet never dragging or losing the reader's interest; you can make the most seemingly trivial detail speak volumes about a character or situation. I'm always trying to whip the action along; I find it really hard to stop and breathe sometimes. *Takes notes*

But my jaw dropped at the dress being cut down to her clit! I said "Hermione!!!!" in a shocked schoolmarmish tone. LOL. Fabulous description of the clothes though (I'm a bit of a sucker for reading about clothes).

Now how is this dinner party going to go, eh? Will anyone get Crucio'd? I will look forward to finding out.

The plot thickens....very interesting. I have a few theories.
We know the uncle was preventing Squids from getting married to wizards by bribing the wizards' families and this had been going on for about thirty years and was not illegal. We also know that someone else, who may or may not have been working with the uncle, later began blackmailing the Squid's families.
To be able to blackmail you have to have damaging information and no scrupules to use it.
The uncle probably gathered this information through his solicitors while doing his research on Squids. It seems he didn't intend to use it but nothing prevented his solicitors (Neviile & Ridge) to begin a systematic blackmail system with the knowledge they had. We know Neviile is a "veritable fount of rumors, innuendoes and outright scandals" of wizarding society and that he has no respect for muggleborns and Squids, so he has both information and the correct background to be behind the blackmails.
Maybe I'm right, maybe not but it's fun to try to unscramble your mystery.
Looking forward for the rest of the dinner party.
