I do believe that a writter should try to stay as true to the nature of the stories as posible, not necessarily the cannon. It's important to ask yourself an important question. Do you think that this bottle could be a part of the Harry Potter universe? Personally, I do think this to be the case. Thus, making it not too unrealistic that it be in a fanfiction. Good work and please update as soon as you can.

Much like the talking shrunken head from the Knight's Bus in the film version of HP&PoA, the everglass is a device that just seems to "fit in" to Rowling's world. In the DVD special features section of that movie, even JKR admits that the talking shrunken head fits right in, and she wished she'd thought of it! So jealous of your imagination - the time you must have put into thinking up the details was surely significant. Keep up the good work!
