Actually, your history is WRONG. The war of 1812 was an incredibly short war about people being kidnapped and forced into the British Naval service even though America had already won the Revolution and was no longer a member of the empire. It did serve a purpose - as it reinforced that we could and would defend ourselves against an older an more powerful Britain, and win, and it also helped lower instances of people being taken from American ships. However, it was also a failure in that none of the previously taken individuals were returned and the kidnappings did not end. It was, after all, still a legal method of recruitment to 'impress' someone into the British Navy, willing or not, and most so taken died after two years.
