That was a nicely set up scene between Snape and Yaxley - I like the way you have interpreted Yaxley's character, from the little we know of him in canon, and it does make sense that some of the real loyalists would be suspicious of Snape and jealous of his position in the Dark Lord's circle. We see this from Bellatrix, and she can't be the only one.

Good scene - I wonder if Yaxley will take his vengeful attitude towards Snape any further?

Yes, I can see this is a difficult dynamic to write - the Malfoys obviously aren't used to open affection and it seems that both Lucius and Narcissa are contemptuous of Draco's emotional displays. And we have Lucius trying to deal with the knowledge that he has to 'lend' his wife to Voldemort, and Narcissa not keen on the prospect and probably a bit resentful of Lucius for not doing anything to protect her. Complicated stuff! I can't wait to see how it pans out.

haha.
pimp cane.
in an context that makes me laugh.
i feel for poor Narcissa. if it were my child...and we lived in the Harry Potter universe...i would have done the same thing.
i thought they were in character, especially Lucius. Usually he is too soft on Draco in other stories, but i think this was the closest you can get to canon, especially since J.K. herself never really delved into the dynamics of the Malfoy family too much.

YES! Go Narcissa! She rules! and Draco...is so sweet. He gives me little warm fuzzies. nice chapter. Glad to see Greyback where he belongs!

This was an absolutely amazing chapter; one of the best I've read of yours, I think. Pure nailbiting drama from start to finish, and the climax was incredible with first Bellatrix, then Narcissa, then finally Draco seeking to neutralise the mad werewolf. Tension on top of tension, and I really appreciate all your psychological insights - such as Draco's reasons for wanting to be the one to finish Greyback, rather than his mother. All the Death Eater in-fighting and bitching is really well done as well - the peripheral shadowy characters are coming to life under your touch.

As you say, there is a great deal of underlying sadness, but it's still a cracking read.

Oh, a nice setup there with the roulette game. I wondered what the hell Greyback was up to, but it turns out Snape has foiled him, clever as ever. It will be good for Greyback to get his come-uppance; he seems only barely in control of himself and a bit of a liability all round, I think.

Great work, as ever.

I just noticed all the characters get in trouble at some point:

Lucius: punished by Voldemort by trying to get his wife/son to escape and then raped by Bella

Bellatrix: Punished by Voldemort when she made the shrine for him.

Draco: caned by Snape because of the ridiculous prank on the kids.

Narcissa: she will be treated terribly by Lucius later, won

Congratulations on getting your story read at the conference in August! You must be excited. I wish I could go, but it's kind of a long way from home.

Anyway, this was another powerful chapter. Your Voldemort is authentically frightening, and I particularly loved the description of the violent, erotic music played by the spade-shaped windchimes. Your eye for exotic detail is so very good. I'm sure it'll go down well at the conference.
