Sheherazade: Glad you like to see a kinder Lucius. But he was partially motivated by his jealous rage over Voldemort planning to exercise his dominion over his wife, which Lucius views as his property like in the old days when men thought of their wives as the person they owned.

Blimey, what is Bellatrix like?! Well...like a violent sexual sadist, of course.
I liked how Voldemort's voice was 'like a cacophony, like an explosive detonating' - good image. His wrath was really well described.
Eeek! @ cannibalism though! (Mind you, everyone loves Hannibal Lecter, don't they?)

Lucius was surprisingly sweet there - but I can just hear him saying 'little flower'; in fact, I have him saying that in a future chapter of a fic I've got up at the moment. I think Narcissa is self-absorbed and thoughtless rather than evil per se, as well as being completely taken up with Draco, so that definitely rings true with me.
Also, I secretly like the idea of Lucius having a softer side, much as I adore him being a bastard, so I enjoyed that little scene.

Characterisation in this is superb - I like the way Bellatrix tries to change Voldemort's mind, not out of concern or an effort to protect her younger sister, but because she is worried about her own position of influence being usurped. She is magnificently obsessive and self-centred.
Then Voldemort cuts her right down to size - LOL! Though I think she's going to want to get back at Narcissa for that.
Thanks for clearing that up about the Veela for me; I wasn't sure where they stood in the Pureblood pecking order :-).

No wonder Lucius and Narcissa look so worn out in DH - especially Narcissa! Do Purebloods look down on Veela then? Are they considered half-breeds?
This is all building up gradually to high drama. I'm intrigued to know what goes down in Malfoy Manor before the final events of Book 7.

Uh oh, I get the feeling Narcissa is going to have to pay for Draco's good graces somehow...
This is a very convincing tie-in with canon; all the characterisations are spot-on so far. Hope you get more readers soon; the atmosphere and tension are building nicely.

Great start, Pensieve Person. Very atmospheric and well written. I'm a massive fan of Sylvia Plath (and Shakespeare), so this hit the right spot straight away.
