so far i'm liking this. usually i don't care for the cliche "harry gets abused by the dursleys and snape somehow becomes his savior", but i think you've so far made the onset of abuse quite realistic. harry's initial welcome home is so harsh and a shock to the system that his subservient reaction makes sense in this. while i do wonder what brought on vernon's sudden need for abusive control, i was fascinated with his destruction of harry's property. especially his wand since someone who feared harry's magic would do that first thing. so yeah, so far, so good.
