Oh I think this chapter turned out extremely well and believable..
I could definately see the Malfoy's wanting to be "civilized" but in the end doing whatever they needed to in order to get what they want. Great job =)

i like how you made hermione's mom real. how she dislikes the malfoys for what they did to her daughter. wish there was a little more conflict between the parents especially between narcissa and jane because i think jane would have more anger towards them for making her daughter cry. can't wait for chapter 2, UDPATE SOON!

I love how you described the Grangers life style. I loved it.
I was kind of dissapointed when Lucius Oliviated Hermione's parents.
I mean, Mr. Granger was trying to make an imprasion. I thought that was nice, but
oh, well, the Malfoys wouldn't be Malfoys if they didn't use their cunniness.

Fantastic update! I had a feeling that was what it was going to come to..I was suprised that the Malfoy's tried it the civil way first..lol Can't wait to read what happens next. How will Hermione be treated? Are the Malfoys really considering marriage?
