First your note on them not being able to use magic at anytime for anything. One of the advantages to writing about a school, JK didn't have to worry about that, there were clearly limits. They were trainees if something didn't happen you just assumed it was because they couldn't do it, much more challenging when they're older, and you have to set some line to what they can and can't do with their powers. Your explanation makes sense, so absolutely no complaints.

Not to feed your ego, but probably to make you write the next chapter this story is amazing. The part I hate about writing is getting from the idea to each word, but you divulge just the right amount, and are willing to a go a couple chapters without too much action if you need to. Only the smallest complaints on grammar and the odd sentence that just doesn't sound natural.

So go now put down chemistry or whatever you're working on (or are supposed to be working on and took a break from to read reviews) and write the next chapter!
