I found your story by mere accident, but got hooked by it very quickly. Finding Snape/Draco stories where the relationship is purely parental is rare, which surprises me a little because I definitely get father/son vibes in all of their canon scenes, but finding one as good as yours is a joy indeed. Draco's desperate striving to meet his father's impossible expectations, and his fear and feeling of worthlessness when he fails almost broke my heart - I came close to crying when he kept insisting that his father was right to beat him half to death. Snape's affection for his godson as well as his growing horror and anger when he discovers the abuse Draco has been subjected to is also excellently written. He is exactly the father figure Draco needs - he is strict with the boy when he needs be, but also quick to show him unconditional love and appreciation, which is something Draco has rarely, if ever, had in his life before. Lucius, of course, is the ultimate b***d, and what makes him so terrifying is that not only does he himself believe it is right to beat a 12-year-old senseless for losing a quidditch match, he has carefully brainwashed his son to accept the abuse without complaining. Even after the horrifying beating he received, Draco's prime concern is that no one except Snape finds out what happened, because he thinks his father did the right thing.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the future - whether more people than Snape finds out about Draco's home situation, whether Snape can help Draco raise his grades (or even better, "un-brainwash" Lucius' teachings from him), and what Snape will do next time he meet Malfoy Sr. Personally, I vote for letting Lucius spend half an hour under Cruciatus, followed by a nice disembowelling spell... *eg*

Oh, and a couple other things.
1.) I like the Godfather bit. However, my godchildren call me "Aunt". Try using "Uncle". I don't agree with using "Snape". One's godchild would never refer to the godparent by the last name.
2.) I can see Draco as an abused child. Sometimes the most abused children are the ones the world never suspects. That's the true cruelty of child abuse. I say this from experience. Harry has no more reason to be seen as abused than any other character in these books. His is simply 'in-your-face'.
3.) I can see a Slytherin worrying about lying. Sometimes children do not have the chance to truly be who they are because they are too busy trying to be who someone else wants them to be. That fits with the concept of abused children. Many times the abused child will be in overdrive trying to please the abusive parent. This, too, I say from firsthand knowledge.
I have always thought that perhaps living with Lucius was not a boat floating down the middle of lemonade stream. I am pleased to see that you have a true awareness of what goes on in the reality of child abuse. The nuances and the effects on human behavior.
Now...more, more, more.

I loved it! It was really interesting to get to see a different side of Snape who actually seemed to care about someone. I hope you update your story soon, looking forward to reading it!

*cheers Snape's reaction* I feel awful sorry for Dray, though, having thought for so long that Sev knew and approved of what his father was doing. Poor bratling, he's got such horrid issues to work through, in addition to the healing he'll need.
*very long pause for thought* Um, what year was it that Buckbeak bit him? Cause, well... I do remember him being whiney about that for canon ages, and it would tie in well with this. I just dunno what year it was.
Exuse me, must go thump Lucius with his own cane. Repeatedly. *grins*

Love the second chapter. I do hope you keep writing more. Is Severus gonna adopt Draco? That would piss off old Lucius. :) Keep going please?

Hi! I just read this off the link on our list, Harry Potter H/C. I liked it a lot, once I got past the basic premise that Draco is abused (I don't really think he is in canon, but it's nice to imagine it. Well, not nice, but you know what I mean. We h/c'ers are twisted little things ). I think it's very well paced, the tight Draco's POV works very well - nice touch about his not knowing what the Room of Requirement was and assuming it was some kind of holdover Hogwarts torture chamber. I love the euphemism "spanked", and the gradual revelation of its meaning. His hatred of "Potter" is, I think, very realistic and I can actually sympathize with it (even though, in canon, Draco is my least favourite character and I think Harry has many more canon excuses to be seen as abused). I like the plausibility of Lucius being there and the logistics of avoiding people after the match, going to Snape's room, etc. If you go over this I would you suggest you replace about a third of the "his godfather"s with "Snape", and then another thirs with "Uncle Severus" or whatever he calls him. Theyt need cutting down as they stand. Also, I doubt that that a Slytherin would obsess over lying. he lies. It's convenient. Done deal. Finally, if you want a Brit- and general- beta, I'd be honoured. Email me if interested. Thanks for a luscious read!
