Wow, i'm shock.

About your note, i agree its can be but well not random. Genes is not about your dad, your mom or your granddad-mom its carry all of your ancestor and hidden those hair or looks until something make it show up again (like another similar hidden form of genes). To say i'm Thai with both parent have black hair/black eyes but if one of my great-great-great-parent married to some foreign with blue eyes and blone hair my child can have thoes looks as well its just depend on the right time and the right one.

Great story, I liked it. My brother was platinum blond as a child too, and then some time after he was about 5 or 6 his hair changed to dark brown. So the hair thing is absolutely true.

I like the story. About the hair, if I am not mistaken red hair and blond hair are closely related.

Hi, I enjoyed your story, but I have a comment about your author\'s note. Genes do determine your hair color, but in a complicated way. I think the easiest way to describe it is to picture boxes with lids. Each box is a gene and the lid is on or off depending on whether a gene is being expressed (in use) or not. You get a box from your mom and a box from your dad for some things, but for hair color each parent gives you several boxes. At different times in your life, the lids are opened and closed, and sometimes what\'s in one box is so strong that you don\'t see what\'s in another box. The stronger trait is called \"dominant\" and the weaker trait is called \"recessive\". For example, many people have lighter hair as children and their hair darkens at puberty. Then when they are old the pigment fades and they may have white or grey hair. Or, as in your case, your parents have dark hair and blond hair, but you have red. That means both of your parents had red hair to contribute, but you couldn\'t see it because the other colors are dominant. Back to the boxes: your dad had brown boxes and red boxes, and your mom had blonde boxes and red boxes. They both happened to give you red boxes, and that\'s what you see because that\'s what\'s in all your boxes.
A similar thing happens with eye color, but with fewer boxes and a narrower range of color choices.

Good luck with your writing!
